Late Shri K.K Sud

Former Partner

Late Shri K.K Sud, the founding member of Sud & Sud, was a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India and is regarded as one of the leading lawyers of his generation. From the very start of his career as a lawyer, he had a patriotic view and a strong belief in the Indian judicial system.  In recognition of his service to the legal fraternity, K.K. Sud was bestowed the honour of being made the Advocate General (Standing Counsel-Criminal) for the Union Territory of Delhi. Additionally, owing to his expertise, he was also made the Additional Solicitor General of India, an office he held till 2003. Along with these professional duties, he also held the office of Chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi for two consecutive years, winning by a thumping majority and also held the position of Secretary at the DHCBA.As Standing Counsel for the Delhi High Court, he was entrusted with several significant cases, including the confirmation of the death penalty for Billa and Ranga—a case that shook the nation. His legal expertise and commitment to justice ensured that the law prevailed. Recognizing his leadership qualities and deep concern for the welfare of his fellow lawyers, he was elected Secretary of the Delhi Bar Association, one of the largest bar associations in the country. His dedication to the profession further led him to the Bar Council of Delhi, where he served for nearly 15 years, including two terms as Chairman.Mr. Sud was not just a legal luminary but also a committed social and religious activist. He was deeply involved in various organizations, lending his time and expertise to numerous causes. His role in representing several luminaries in the Ram Janmbhoomi dispute further cemented his legacy as a fearless advocate. He successfully procured bail for all the prominent leaders falsely accused in the above case. He successfully got the FIR quashed against L.K Advani from the Delhi High Court, which was even upheld in the Supreme Court. In the meantime, he regularly appeared at Rai Bereilly in the Babri Masjid trial.In recognition of his unparalleled contribution to the field of law, the Delhi High Court designated him as a Senior Advocate on 03.11.1999, an honour befitting his stature. His illustrious career saw him taking up multiple prestigious roles, including that of Additional Solicitor General of India, Delhi High Court for the period 1999 to 2003. His legal wisdom was sought not only in the courts but also in academia and administration—he served on the board of several schools and colleges in Delhi, including as the Chairman of Maharaja Agrasen College, Delhi University. His tenure as a Director of Indian Tourism Development Corporation during its privatization demonstrated his ability to navigate complex legal and policy matters beyond the courtroom.

Former Partner

Shri Jayant K. Sud, a distinguished Senior Advocate, was a key member of Sud & Sud, from 1994, where he made significant contributions to the firm's success, specializing in criminal law and civil litigation. Mr. Sud completed his legal education at the University of Delhi. His legal acumen and strategic insights were instrumental in securing several high-profile clients that cemented the firm's reputation in the industry.

In 2018, Jayant K. Sud decided to embark on a new professional journey after being designated as a Senior Advocate, reflecting his exemplary service and standing in the legal profession.  

He served as an Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India from June 2020 to July 2023. As an ASG, Sud represented the Government of India in various legal matters before the Supreme Court. His role involved providing legal advice to the government and appearing on its behalf in cases concerning national interest.

Mr. Sud has led initiatives for reforms in motor accident cases, advocating for the development of a mobile application to facilitate instant lodging of claims, a proposal accepted by the Government of India and the Supreme Court. He has been an elected member of the Supreme Court Bar Association and has served on advisory panels of various institutions, contributing to the advancement of the legal profession.

Prior to his tenure as ASG, Sud also served as the AAG for the State of Punjab. His legal expertise and contributions to the field have been acknowledged through his appointments and roles in various legal capacities. Over the years, he has represented both the Union of India and private clients in several landmark criminal cases before the Supreme Court and various High Courts across the nation.

Sai Manik Sud is a dual-qualified legal professional with a robust foundation in both Indian and international legal systems. A graduate of National Law University, Delhi and the University of Leeds, Sai also holds an LPC qualification, paving the way for dual qualification as a solicitor-advocate.

His professional journey spans cross-border legal environments, including a tenure as a Paralegal at Kensingtons, London, where he worked on commercial disputes. He also gained practical exposure at 3 Temple Gardens, contributing to high-value litigation, which reinforced his focus on oral advocacy.

Sai Manik brings a strong cross-border perspective to his practice, backed by a growing network of legal professionals in the UK and tie-ups with law firms in London. This international collaboration enables him to assist clients in navigating multi-jurisdictional legal issues and deliver seamless legal solutions across borders.

He has also served as a Researcher in the Supreme Court of India where he worked on high stakes matters, gaining rare insights into the workings of the Supreme Court of India.

Sai Manik was an associate with the Special Counsel for the Enforcement Directorate, where he actively contributed to complex litigation and has sharpened his courtroom advocacy skills.
